Management and Economics Research Institute of Chungnam National University was launched in 1979 with the aim of contributing to academic and social development through research and investigation on theory and practical application about management and economics. It has a 44-year history as of 2023.

Based on its geographical advantages located in the center of Daedeok Special Zone, this institute has been recognized as having the highest level of research capability in Korea by being selected as Major Research Institute in 2002, SSK Project Group in 2012, and University Major Research Institute in 2018 designated by the National Research Foundation of Korea. There are five main activities carried out by this institute.

First, in order to strengthen the academic research sector, academic support is provided to strengthen research capabilities for professors, affiliated researchers of this institute.

Second, in order to strengthen the industrial cooperation sector, external commissioned education or research projects are entrusted to promote an academic and practical cooperation system between industry, academia, research, and government.

Third, domestic and foreign academic conferences are held every year to spread academic research results. In addition, the institute is conducting active academic research activities , such as holding regular seminars, as a representative research institute in the field of management and economics in the central region.

Finally, as a research institute of a national university, the research institute in charge of educational administration as well as an external window as a management and economics-related subject.
